Heart of Fire is a journey into the history of the Polynesian Fireknife, also known as the “Shiva Afi” or “Tooth of Death”. Professional fire performer Neal Webb visited the World Fireknife Championships in Hawaii and got a closer look at the Polynesian warrior culture.

Along with the documentary screening a live fire show will take place inside the auditorium.

The Heart of Fire team have created a documentary into the Heart of Fire Dancing Warriors within the Polynesian culture. Along with the screening of the documentary the event will see a mix of traditional Polynesian fireknife dancers The Hula Hut – Polynesian Dinner & Show, Polynesian musicians, traditional greetings and songs Whaia Whaea, funky blues music by Matty Rogers and smooth island tunes by Favourite Son. Energy Entertainments will also be performing a fire show for the event.

Food available on the night by Hangi CHEF (Vegetarian option available) Food will need to be pre ordered so please message to book your food. Its a big dish that’s super tasty $20.

Join Neal Webb on a journey to find the heart of fire dancing on Polynesian lands. Neal visited the Hawaiian Islands in search of finding the Heart of Polynesian Fireknife Warriors and witness the World Fireknife championships.

The project Heart of Fire is a collaboration between fire performer Neal Webb, creative director of Energy Entertainments, film-maker Elijah Cavanagh founder of FilmsCo and sound designer Gabrielle Fry from JPL Media. Together they will create a feature length documentary to the heart of fire dancing. Individually they are the best in the business in their fields but together there is no stopping the action, beauty and journey they will take you on throughout the documentary.

Keep an eye out for Neal performing his high energy martial art fire shows at the Swell Sculpture Festival and the award winning Buskers By The Creek, both festivals held in Currumbin on the Gold Coast in September and October 2015.

Energy Entertainments are also holding Tai Chi workshops in Goondiwindi School with Kung Fu performances and a fire weapons show including fire sword, fire bow staff and fire chain whip to close the event.

The Heart of Fire Documentary is in full swing and will be completed by the end of the year. Heart of Fire is a journey to find the roots of fire dancing where professional fire performer Neal Webb visits the World Fireknife Championships in Hawaii and trains with the Polynesian warriors to see if he has what it takes to become a fireknife warrior.

There are lots of high energy fire twirling/dancing/spinning shows coming to the Gold Coast and Sydney over the next few months so watch this space and I hope you’re lucky enough to feel the heat of Neal performance.

Still to this day after 11 years, my wonder and passion for fire is still burning bright. I often wonder why fire captivates us so much? Everyone from indigenous tribes to modern city dwellers use fire and marvel over the dance of fire. Can you imagine being the first, the first to ever see fire? This raging, dancing, inferno of heat, eating up anything in its path.

I’ve read that Homo erectus (not erectuses) were the earliest human species to harness fire. They began to depend on fire, they cooked with fire, they warmed their families with fire and still to this day, fire is an important part of everyday survival. But some of us use fire in other ways, including dancing with it. We try to understand the flames, where will they move next and how can we flow with its dance or dance with its flow? I dance for fun, I really do enjoy it, others must like it, they pay me to do it, but what I really want to know is, why people began to dance with fire? When did it start? Why did it start? What does fire mean to them? And is anyone in control of this raging burning element?

That’s why the Heart of Fire team is on a mission to discover and film the heart of fire dancing, where it started and why it began. We started a campaign 3 months ago and this week, our idea is becoming a reality. We soon set off to Polynesian lands to find the answers we seek.

The Heart of Fire team have chosen the Polynesian people as their 1st stop to find the heart of fire dancing. They will delve deeper into the Polynesian culture, learn their traditions, practice the art of fireknife dance, speak to elders, learn how to forge a fireknives and build friendships along the way. All will be captured through Elijah’s lens, his previous work shows a deep beauty and connection with the people and places he visits, together with Gabrielle’s intuitive sound design and Neal’s love for life and people they will take the documentary on journey of pure involvement of their surroundings and capture the true heart of fire dancing.
